Deborah Z. Bain, M.D.

I learned the hard way that health is a precious gift that cannot be taken for granted. I had 9 neck and back surgeries and breast cancer in my 30s. With insight and wisdom learned on my own journey to get well, I created a holistic, integrative pediatric practice with roots in sound nutrition to restore health and prevent disease in the children I care for. God left me on this earth to preach a different message of health and wellness, balance and prevention.
Our bodies are our temples, sum of our experiences, our nutrition, but also our toxic burden both current exposures and inherrited. In essence you are not only “what you eat,” but also what you “do, think, believe and are exposed to from before you are born to the day of your last breath.”
The good news is that your body has an amazing ability to heal itself if you just give it what it needs.
Some of the foundational nutritional recommendations I encourage include:
• Eating a modified Paleo-Mediterranean Diet which includes non GMO, no hormone, minimally processed foods, rich in fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, quality lean meats (wild caught fish, free range chicken, grass fed beef), lentils and legumes, as well as alternative ancient grains such as quinoa and millet(non-wheat), and small potatoes.
• Multivitamin/Mineral Supplement and/or Whole Food Supplement
• Vitamin D3 – adult 2000-4000 iu/day, child 1000-2000 iu/day, baby 400-800 iu/day
• Combination product for Essential Fatty Acids: adult 2000-4000 mg/day, child 1000-2000 mg/day
• Probiotics: especially with allergies, GI issues, and/or antibiotic use, maintenance 10 billion cfu, GI issues starting dose of 25-50 billion cfu multistrain.
No only do I recommend foundational nutrition for promoting health, but also lifestyle changes that promote good health. Some suggestions include :
• Getting Enough rest and relaxation time
• Decreasing stress
• Promoting a regular exercise plan for the whole family – riding bikes, going to the gym together, taking an evening walk
• Limit sugar
• Drink fresh filtered water, not from water bottles
• Do not use the microwave
• Make healthy food convenient and a way of life instead of being caught having to utilize fast food sources to feed your family
• Choose organic foods as much as possible to limit pesticide exposure
• Use natural cleaners
These recommendations may be hard to do all at once. Remember, one positive change today will mean you are one step closer to being healthier tomorrow. You are worth it.
